The Addiction Support Podcast is a weekly (most weeks) podcast where I interview inspiring people who are committed to helping people with addiction. Show notes can be found at addictionsupportpodcast.com.
I believe that addiction is a huge problem today.
There are over 23 MILLION (that’s more than 23,000,000 people) in the United States who are addicted to alcohol or drugs.
48.3% of the people in Federal Prisons are in there due to drug-related charges.
According to The Anonymous People, there are about 23 million people experiencing long-term recovery.
I’m excited about this! This gives me hope!
People can heal their addiction and go into remission.

The thing is those of us who don’t have addiction need to stop treating addiction like it’s a crime or like its some type of sin. It’s a disease!
Substance use disorder develops as a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental stimulus that result in physical changes to the brain’s circuitry. This leads to the cravings and characteristic compulsive and destructive behaviors of addiction.
Once WE stop talking about our loved ones with addiction less like it’s some shameful secret…and more like someone who is struggling with cancer or diabetes…then we will be able to help our loved ones. Then we will be able to fight for their right to have the full medical and counseling services they need in order to recover. Then we will be able to stand in love, set and abide by healthy boundaries, and be the light we need to be in order for our loved ones to heal.
My hope and dream with this podcast is to be part of the change. Please subscribe to Addiction Support Podcast on iTunes and leave us a review.
