Listen to Addiction Support Podcast Episode 25 on Self-Esteem:

Thank you for Listening!

Show Notes for this episode are at addictionsupportpodcast.com/episode25

Overview:

My guest this week is Host of Real Deal Recovery Podcast, Stephen Girard!  Stephen & I discuss actionable life-hacks for building self-esteem.

Stephen has been in recovery since the age of 22 (1984), and has been clean and sober over 32 years. While he received the gift of recovery at an early age, it wasn’t without years of serious unmanageability and painful consequences along the way.

He has been a professional musician since 1976, and has performed on over 20 recordings, and has toured throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States.

He is active in recovery circles, and is a sober coach and consultant, along with hosting a topic-based podcast: Real Deal Recovery.

Stephen has also been a music educator for over 25 years, and for the last ten years has been using rhythms to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic to special needs teens and adults.

A former Buddhist forest monk (Thailand), he is an advocate of meditation and of practicing the twelve steps to achieve physical and emotional recovery.

Stephen currently resides in New York City.

Self-Esteem Resources:

Be as honest as you are capable as being.

Self-Esteem Improves with Self Care:

  • HALT – Don’t get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.  When you address these areas you are more emotionally centered.
  • Clean & Organized

You can also hear from holistic health and wellness professionals that share insight into keeping yourself well. Although Melissa confesses she does not have it all figured out, through the help of seminars, life coaches, and wellness professionals she has been able to work through her feelings of sadness, guilt, and shame associated with having two younger brothers struggle with drug addiction. After one brother passed away, she decided that his death would not be in vain. Only recently after watching Johann Hari's Ted Talk: Everything You Know About Addiction is Wrong did she decided to take action by focusing on inspiring hope and change by providing love and support to friends and family members of addicts. “Be the change you wish to see in the world” - Gandhi
